Self Portrait Project
~The week after our winter break, Mrs. Kiick surprised the whole class with a blind self portrait drawing that many of us enjoyed and had fun with. It was a very good idea from my teacher because no one wanted to get out of bed that morning and go back to school. Along with a self portrait, we had to write some things about ourselves and design it to make the drawing not look as bad..haha.
Empty Bowls Project
"Empty Bowls" is a project that is internationally known to fight hunger, customized by artists and art organizations on a community level. It supports food charities around the world and has raised millions of dollars to fight against hunger. We created bowls in all forms and glazed them with different glazes for our big dinner to serve a simple meal.
In exchange for the meal and the bowl, guests give a minimum donation and the money that gets collected that day, goes to local huger-fighting organizations such as, food banks and national and international charitable groups!
This is my bowl that I created and glazed for the charity.

Why Pablo Picasso?
I picked Pablo Picasso because he brought a whole new movement in the history of art. He wanted to be different from other artists at that period of time. He was the very first artist to create works that explored the world differently. Some people think that he is not important and most of his art work is scribble-scrabble, but I am sure if they would look deeper into his pieces of art, they would lose the term 'scribble-scrabble.' Picasso did not just paint what he wanted to or what was called "art" at that time, but painted life as he truly saw it.
Pablo Picasso project continued..
Three images that stood out to me from Pablo's work:
~ This piece is called the "Weeping Woman" and it follows a series of other paintings in the era of World War II. This image has many different meanings to it but it mostly focuses on the war. This woman is crying and scared of what is going to happen that is worse than this. It really made me wonder how people at that period of time went to sleep from all the bombings and the shooting outside of their homes.~
~Pablo painted this during the blue period and it is called "The Ironing Woman" which was a very depressing period after his dear friend shot himself in the head because a woman he loved rejected him. I relate this image to many of the women that are suffering from either financial issues or the abuse from their husbands. This woman seems like she is in a lot of pain and very sad but at the same time she has to take care of the house do what a woman is mostly known of doing.~

Pablo Picasso Project
A Brief Biography:
Picasso was born was born on October 25, 1881 in Malaga, Spain. His father taught drawing at a local Fine Arts school, which allowed Picasso to get drawing and painting lessons at a very young age. In 1895, Picasso's father got a job at the School of Fine Arts in Barcelona. The teachers at the School were shocked by Picasso's young talent so he got accepted into the school and passed exams with very good grades compared to the seniors. At age 15, Pablo drew his very first, famous oil painting which is titled as "The First Communion" and it went on display in an art show in Barcelona. A year after, another painting of Pablo "Science and Charity" won a competition in Malaga. Picasso spent hours at a local museum, studying and copying works by famous painters. In 1900, he moved to Paris against his parent's permission by rejecting fine art styles and going for new techniques.
From 1901 to 1904 is named the "Blue Period" because his best friend, Casegemas, shot himself in the head after a woman rejecting his love. This death caused some paintings, starting with "Death of Casagemas" in shades of blue. Three years after the death of Casegemas, Picasso painted many depressing paintings, all in blue. The year 1907 is a very important year when Pablo became fascinated with African sculptures. He was inspired by sharp angles, Picasso started to paint in the style of Cubism. Picasso's work became political for a short period of time, when World War II broke out. Picasso handed the Nazis copies of anti-war prints he had produced during the occupation of France. In his later years, Picasso dedicated his talent to painting generous images and fighting for peace. He even named one of his children Paloma, which means "peace". Picasso had many lovers over the years and seemed unable to remain faithful to any one woman. He passed away at the age of 92.

~ This image in my opinion is very strong but very sad. I picked this image because I love history and this was painted when the whole world was going through a war and many innocent people were killed and suffered a lot.~
